A SIGNED JAPANESE BRONZE FIGURE OF A WOMAN WITH A BASKET, MEIJI PERIOD (1868–1912) - Cast bronze, finely modeled as a standing young woman in a traditional kimono and straw sandals, depicted lifting the edge of her hood with one hand while holding a woven basket in the other. The folds of the garment and the textured basket are rendered with naturalistic precision, reflecting the high level of craftsmanship typical of the Meiji period. The figure is set on an integral circular base with a lightly textured surface. Signed in Japanese characters to the base. Japanese bronzes of the Meiji era were often made for the export market, with artisans capturing scenes of daily life as well as mythological subjects. This example, signed, belongs to the tradition of finely detailed figural works intended to appeal to Western collectors of the late 19th century. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
