A BRONZE FIGURE OF COUNTESS SUSAN DE ROBIEN WITH THE GREYHOUND BY GLEB W. DERUJINSKY RUSSIAN-AMERICAN - This bronze composition by Gleb W. Derujinsky (Russian-American, 1888–1975) is one of his earliest works (created in Russia and executed in bronze by one of the most authoritative Russian casting workshops ”Karl Robekki” in St. Petersburg), the sculptor largely anticipated (expected and embodied) the main trends of the still emerging style of Art Deco; he will later become one of the Art Deco classics in the USA. A photograph of the bronze ”The Countess Susan de Robien with the Greyhound” was published in the magazine ”The World of Art”. The countess' s husband was Louis de Robien (1888-1958), a French diplomat who served in St. Petersburg since 1914 as an attaché (in 1918 received the rank of third secretary), with ambassadors Paleolog and Noulance.
