A BERNHARD BUTZKE (1876-1952) JUGENSTIL BRONZE SCULPTURE - A Bronze Figure of a Doe (Deer), signed: B. Butzke on base with foundry mark: Bildgiesserei Kraas, Berlin. A finely cast bronze sculpture of a standing doe with its head arched upward in alert motion, captured in a moment of poised grace. The animal's anatomy is subtly stylized with smooth contours and refined musculature, embodying a balance of naturalism and modern elegance. Patinated in a rich dark brown with warm undertones, the bronze is mounted on an octagonal variegated marble base. This work reflects the early 20th-century German tradition of animalier sculpture, which emphasized anatomical sensitivity, minimalism, and Art Deco influence. Foundry: Bildgiesserei Kraas, a noted Berlin art foundry active in the early 20th century, known for high-quality lost-wax bronze casts for prominent German sculptors.
