”KONYOK-GORBUNOK” A SOVIET PORCELAIN PLATE, DULEVO PORCELAIN FACTORY, CIRCA 1930 - A SOVIET PORCELAIN PLATE, KONYOK-GORBUNOK, DULEVO PORCELAIN FACTORY, CIRCA 1930. The scalloped-rim porcelain plate is finely painted in polychrome enamels and heightened with gilt, the central scene depicting a figure from Pyotr Yershov’s celebrated fairy tale Konyok-Gorbunok (The Little Humpbacked Horse): a young archer in a red caftan, bow in hand, standing before a purple horse under stylized trees. The border is left plain with a gilt rim. Mark: Underglaze red factory stamp ”Дулёво / НКМП СССР / В.А. Суслов” (Dulevo Porcelain Factory, USSR People’s Commissariat for Local Industry, signed V.A. Suslov), with red star. This plate belongs to the important series of Soviet porcelain with folkloric and literary themes, produced at the Dulevo factory in the interwar period. Works inspired by Konyok-Gorbunok were popular subjects, reflecting the Soviet celebration of folk epics in accessible decorative art. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
