Bidspirit auction | A LE ROY ET FILS

A LE ROY ET FILS SILVER REPEATER POCKET WATCH WITH KEY, 18TH/19TH CEN. - This elegant pocket watch is by Leroy & Fils (Le Roy & Sons), one of the most prestigious French horological houses of the 18th and 19th centuries. Engraving Details (Inside Case): ”Le Roy & Fils Horlogers du Roi Palais-Royal 13 & 15 À Paris No. 25588” Translation: Le Roy & Sons, Watchmakers to the King, Palais Royal 13 & 15, Paris. Serial number: 25588. This confirms it was made during their Palais-Royal period, likely circa 1820–1840, when they catered to the aristocracy and royalty. Key-wound (hole in dial), almost certainly a high-grade cylinder or lever escapement. Dial: Classic Breguet-style enamel dial with Arabic numerals and blued steel spade & whip hands. Case: Likely solid 18K rose gold or heavy gold-plated (metal not tested). Understated and refined, typical of early 19th-century Parisian haute horlogerie. Le Roy & Fils: Founded by Basille Charles Le Roy (1765–1839). Appointed Horloger du Roi (Watchmaker to the King) under Louis XVIII and Charles X. Known for supplying finely made pocket watches to courts in France, Russia, and England. Later branched into London with a second workshop (e.g., Le Roy & Son, London).
