A CARVED COQUILLA NUT ITALIAN NAVAL SNUFF BOX, EARLY 19TH CEN. - A lidded snuff box comprised of carved coquilla nut with a brass hinged connecting the box and lid. The lid carved with detailed militaristic naval motifs, including boarding axes, banners, an anchor, a cannon, and a ram for a ship's prow, among other items. The rim of the box is decorated with intricate floral patterning, with the bottom having a single large flower surrounded by many petals. Italy, early 19th century.
