Bidspirit auction | A FRENCH ROMANTIC DAGGER WITH

A FRENCH ROMANTIC DAGGER WITH GILT BRONZE MOUNTS, 19TH CENTURY - The hilt is cast in the form of a nude female figure (possibly representing Eve, given the posture and modesty), standing on a base that may include symbolic details like a skull or serpent, common in allegorical or Memento Mori motifs. The blade is narrow, double-edged, and fullered (with central grooves), showing light signs of aging but not designed for heavy use. The scabbard is elaborately cast with decorative relief, featuring classical motifs and another draped female figure. The presence of such imagery suggests a Renaissance Revival or Symbolist influence. The hilt and scabbard are made of cast-bronze, gilded and patinated, while the blade is steel. France, 19th century. Please make all inquiries before bidding. All lots are sold ”as-is”, refer to our T&C. Helios Auctions does not ship in-house. A list of recommended shippers will be provided. Dimensions: L: 12 1/4 in., (31.1 cm.) Condition: Very good, with some light pitting towards tip of blade. Blade fits scabbard well.
