A BRONZE BIRD COMPOSITION BY F. PAUTROT, FRANCE, 19TH CEN. - Ferdinand Pautrot, French (1832-1874), gilt bronze sculpture of two birds atop a rectangular base. This bronze sculpture has two birds fighting, the larger one dominating the other, set upon a rocky and naturalistic setting of fallen leaves. The detail work behind the birds is exquisite and lifelike, down to each feather, claw, and the expressiveness on their faces. Signed on the front perimeter of the base. Ferdinand Pautrot (1832-1874) was a French sculptor known for his realistic bronze sculptures associated with the Animalier period. Pautrot specialized in hunting themes. He was known for his love of animals, particularly birds, and his highly rendered, engaged, and dramatic depiction of animals. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
