A PAIR OF FRENCH PORCELAIN VASES
A pair of French elaborately decorated porcelain vases, from the 19th century. The vases are amphora-shaped with twin handles fashioned like swan heads and wings, which are gilded. Each vase is hand-painted with detailed military scenes from the Napoleonic wars. The artwork is finely executed and framed with gold borders. Both have square bases and flared rims, also accented with gilding. A red and gold color scheme dominates, with laurel wreath motifs on the base.
These vases resemble works from the Sèvres porcelain tradition, popular in the 18/19 century for commemorative and imperial themes.
