A CONTINENTAL BAROQUE STYLE SILVER AND ONYX MIXOPARTHENOS TAZZA BASE, 19TH C. - An exquisite object de vertu from Continental Europe, baroque eclectic style, dated as the second half of the 19th century. This tazza base, made out of silver and banded agate, has a central motif of a mythological Mixoparthenos and a double-tailed mermaid from the Black Sea. A Garland with musical instruments runs all around the onyx section. Several silver hallmarks are present but of difficult to read. The piece itself probably originally supported a bowl.
