A C. 1813 HAND-COLORED ENGRAVED VIEW OF SMOLENSK, RUSSIA, M.F. DAMAME-DEMARTRAIS (1763-1828) - A hand-colored engraved view of the city of Smolensk in Russia, created by the French artist Michel Francois Damame-Demartrais (1763-1828). Damame-Demartrais spent 9 years in Russia, from 1796 to 1805, where he was deeply inspired by the Russian people and their homeland. He produced multiple series of views of Russia and scenes of Russian citizens at the beginning of the 19th Century. This view shows the iconic Cathedral of the Assumption, also known as the Dormition Cathedral, as seen from the Dnipro River. Engraved in Paris, France, c. 1813.
