AN INDIAN MINIATURE MIXED MEDIA PAINTING ON PAPER, 19TH CEN.
An Indian Company style painting depicting bare-footed man in a white outfit, possibly that of a servant. In one hand he holds a whip and in the other is a rod with attached hair of unknown purpose to us. The Company style of painting originated in 18th century British India and was a hybrid of Indian and European design sensibilities. The style received its name because of its typical patrons, usually foreign agents of the East India Company or other foreign companies.
India, Early 19th Century.
