A LOT OF 6 SILKSCREEN ASIATIC COSTUME PLATES, WPA MUSEUM EXTENSION PROJECT, C. 1937

A lot of six silkscreen printed costume plates produced circa 1937 as part of the Museum Extension Project in Pennsylvania, a WPA (Works Progess Administration) project carried out in around 20 states from 1935-1943, of which Pennsylvania served as the model for all others. The aim of this project was to provide work for skilled artists, tradesmen, and educators who were struggling to find jobs during the Great Depression.

This lot includes: Asiatic Plate No. 3 'Syria - Middle Class'; Plate No. 5 'Assyrian - 800-500 B.C.'; Asiatic Plate No. 7 'Arabia - Upper Class'; Asiatic Plate No. 14 'Siberia - Russian Peasant; Plate No. 18 'Byzantine - Middle Class - 400-1100 A.D.'; and Asiatic Plate No. 49 'Sumatra - Batak Medicine Man & Girl, Menangkabau Woman'.
