A LOT OF ANCIENT PAPYRUS FRAGMENTS, COPTIC MAGICAL PAPYRI, C. 300-500 AD

A lot of 4 fragments of ancient papyrus, likely from Late Antique Egypt. They appear to be written in the Coptic language, in the same manner as the Coptic magical papyri of the era. The longest of the papyri retains some painted decoration in red, blue and black patterning.

Coptic magical papyri were often of a Christian religious nature, using ritual and prayer to attempt to solve everyday problems or cause positive events to happen. Some examples include spells to get rid of headaches, for safe passage at sea, or for revealing the meaning of dreams. Many examples use prayers to the Virgin Mary, other Saints, or God himself.

Probably Late Antique Egypt, c. 300-500 AD.
