Dionysius of Halicarnassus, the Greek historian and teacher of rhetoric, flourished during the reign of Caesar Augustus.

He went to Rome in 30 B.C. and spent 22 years studying Latin and preparing materials for Antiquitates Romanae.

This major work embraced the history of Rome from the mythical period to the beginning of the First Punic War.
