A 19TH CENTURY FRENCH MECHANICAL PERFUME OR SEWING CADDY, MOTHER-OF-PEARL SHELLS - This is a very fine example of a French 19th-century shell and gilt bronze perfume bottle or sewing kit holder in an egg shape with a mechanical opening. Mother-of-pearl shells adorn the main body, the top of the mechanical opening, and four offshoots along the bottom. The entire piece stands upon a base of alabaster in an ovoid shape. Ca. 1890.
