A GILT-SILVER STATUE OF A KING IN ARMOR, GERMANY, 19TH CENTURY
An intricately detailed, gilt-silver sculpture of a king in armor holding a long, flowing, armorial banner in his right hand and wielding a sword in his left hand. The armor appears to be modeled after one of the statues of the ancestors of Maximilian I, commissioned by him shortly before his death in 1519 and currently held in the Hofkirche in Innsbruck, Austria. The rear of the base is marked with various German silver hallmarks, including the 925 silver standard and the crescent moon and crown mark, among others which can be seen in the photographs. The underside of the base is etched with the number 9420445.
Germany, 19th Century.
