A CATHOLIC HAND-HAMMERED SILVER HOLY WATER FONT, 19TH CEN.

A silver holy water font, a religious vessel used in Catholic and Christian practices for holding holy water. The body of the font is ornately decorated with embossed floral and scroll patterns and a cross at the top where it would be hung. The central relief depicts the 13th station of the cross 'Jesus is taken down from the Cross'. The basin itself is elaborately engraved with intricate patterns, further enhancing its ornate appearance. Holy water fonts like this are typically mounted on walls, often near church entrances. Silver hallmarks on the reverse.
