A CLIPPED LETTER SIGNED BY PRINCE PHILIPPE COMTE DE PARIS, U.S. CIVIL WAR - A clipped fragment from a letter written by Prince Philippe d'Orléans, Comte de Paris, the pretender to the French throne. The text reads ”I'm always glad to hear from you my dear General, and I remain yours truly, Philippe Comte de Paris.” The General referred to in the letter is likely General George B. McClellan, whom Prince Philippe served under as an assistant adjutant general with the rank of Captain during the U.S. Civil War, when he and his brother came to America to support the Union cause. This clipping was cut from a larger letter in the past and pasted to a board for preservation. United States, c. 1865. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
