A GILT RUSSIAN ORTHODOX ICON OF THE VIRGIN MARY, 19TH CEN. - A gilt and painted Russian Orthodox icon of the Virgin Mary with a young Christ at the center, flanked by two saints. The piece is finely decorated throughout with intricate geometric patterns and text in Russian. Russia, 19th century. Dimensions: 8 9/16 x 7 7/8 in., (21.7 x 20 cm.) Condition: Some paint peeling throughout. Chipping at edges. Some subtle cracking in places. Gilding still bright.
