A JAPANESE MEIJI ERA BRONZE OKIMONO FIGURE OF KAPPA MOTHER WITH CHILDREN, SIGNED - Japanese bronze Okimono, Meiji period, 1868-1912. The sculpture depicts a mythological kappa mother with one baby turtle boy on his back and one little turtle boy hand in hand beside each other. Signed on the bottom. A kappa is a reptiloid kami with similarities to y?kai found in traditional Japanese folklore. They are typically depicted as green, human-like beings with webbed hands and feet and turtle-like carapaces on their backs. H: 5 in., ( 12.7 cm.) Condition: Excellent.
