Bidspirit auction | A FABERGE, RUSSIAN SILVER FABERGE
A FABERGE, RUSSIAN SILVER FABERGE BOWL WITH COIN 1751 - It is of a classical form with a decorated rim and the bottom made of a silver coin (reign of Elizabeth, 1751), struck with workmaster's initials: JW (Stefan Väkevä), 84 proof, female head looking left, K. FABERGE and a scratched inventory number: 10166. Weight: 2.3 o., 66 g. Footnote: Stefan Väkevä, his son and daughter-in-law used the version S•W, K.W., A.W, and J.W. in their masters’ marks, probably because version W sounds more exotic to a Finnish ear. That is (according to the descendants) the reason Stefan decided to use the W in his masters’ mark. The offspring modeled their marks on their father’s mark. Weight: 2.3 o., 66 g. D: 2 5/8 in., (6.3 cm.), H: 1 3/16 in., (3 cm.) Condition: Excellent.
