A JAPANESE NOH THEATER HANATAKA TENGU MASK, 19TH CEN. - This mask portrays the face of Hanataka Tengu, the embodiment of powerful and usually malevolent legendary creatures with a long nose, fierce eyes, and square jaw from Japanese folk tales. Covered with red and black lacquer on wood with gold-tone highlights on the eyes. 19th century. H:11 in., (28 cm.) Condition: Good overall, minor paint chips.
