AN ALEXANDER ZAKHAROV MIXED MEDIA ARTWORK, RUSSIAN SOVIET - Alexander Zakharov (Russian, Soviet, Born 1960), mixed media on paper artwork depicting three gigantic pink figures Running over a Russian town. Inscribed in Russian on the upper margin: ”This is a sports run along the golden ring and throughout the great mother of Rus'.” Illegibly inscribed in Russian to the lower margin. Matted and framed. Signed and dated 1990, on verso.Alexander Zakharov is known for Landscape and prehistoric animal painting, miniatures, fantasy, and surrealism. In 1991 he moved to New York after being awarded a Pollack-Krasner Foundation Grant as an Artist in Residence; he was awarded First Prize at the Brandywine Workshop in Philadelphia in 1996, and in 1997 became a member of the Society of Illustrators and the Print Club of New York. His poetic landscapes, with their Surrealist overtones, play on the contrast between tiny figures (often animals) and the immensity of Nature (especially clouds).Provenance: Purchased directly from the artist.
