A JOHN OPIE PAINTING OF ELIZABETH PATTERSON BONAPARTE - John Opie (British, 1761 – 1807), oil on canvas painting of Elizabeth Bonaparte, Princess of Montfort. Housed in an old ornate gilt wooden frame. Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte (1785 – 1879) was an American socialite. She was the daughter of a Baltimore merchant, and the first wife of Jerome Bonaparte, Napoleon's youngest brother. John Opie was a historical and portrait painter. He painted many great men and women of his day, including members of the British Royal Family, and others who were notable in the artistic and literary professions. Dimensions: 16 1/8 x 2 3/16 in., (41 x 31 cm.) Condition: Very good.
