A PAIR OF 18TH CEN. FLINTLOCK PISTOLS BY LORAIN - A pair of 18th-century flintlock hunting double-barrel gilt pistols, Damask barrels decorated with flowers and foliage, marked with gold inlaid letters: ”The Lorain In Valencia - Twisted Cannon”, caliber 14.5 mm. Steel lock plates are signed ”Le Lorain”, furniture engraved with flowers, hammers in the of a gooseneck also engraved with flowers and foliage; cut and engraved iron fittings, steel butt is engraved with a fleuron and inlaid with gold; carved walnut stock carved with floral motifs, silver thumb rosette; ramrod with horn tips with steel terminals. Louis XV period. Ca. 1750. Dimensions: L: 13 1/2 in., (34.5 cm.), barrel length: 7 3/8 in., (19 cm.) Condition: Very good overall, gold inlay on the barrels is well preserved. Steel furniture is in good condition, one wooden stock has a small chip by the breech part of the lock. Action is good on all four locks.
