The eldest of four children, but the only girl until she was 13, she balanced rough and tumble games with her brothers and a love of drawing and painting. She learned to love beautiful things and places very young. Spending a few years living at Rhebokskloof as a child, opened her eyes to the history and gravitas of a harsh, but beautiful world outside of her family home. This would translate later into an artist who embodied these contradictions and would, eventually, blend them to harmony, as she did with the oils on her canvases.
