Fragment of a Phrygian architectural plaque. Last quarter 6th century BC. Height 28,9cm, width 21,8cm, depth 5,7cm. Grey to reddish brown terracotta. Moulded formed relief. Above on the left side a hole for attachment. Painting in ochre, dark brown and black depicting a horseman with opulently decorated dress, the horse with coloured mane, rug with jagged border and triskeles on the hindquarters. Beautiful example for painted sculpture of the Late Archaic Period! With certificate of Galerie Günter Puhze, Freiburg, Germany! Left part of the plaque, above, lower left edge and on the right side broken, colour is gorgeously preserved, with nice metal stand. From the Collection Dr. Elie Borowski and published 2000 by Christie´s New York (hammer price 9.400,- US $).
