By Rabbi Rafael Blum - Admor of Kashau ZT”L New York 1958 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ HaGaon HaKadosh Rabbi Rafael Blum (1911-2005) was born in the city of Kashau to his father Rabbi Shmuel and mother Gittel. In his youth, he studied with the Gaon Rabbi Shaul Brach, Av Beis Din of Kashau, and married Chana Malka, daughter of Rabbi Moshe Greenfeld. After his wedding, he established a Yeshiva and taught Torah to students. At the end of the Holocaust, he was liberated in Arad. In the summer of 1945, he returned to Kashau and worked to renew the Orthodox community, serving as its Av Beis Din. Together with other rabbis, he permitted over two hundred agunot to remarry. In 1948, he immigrated to the United States and settled in Brooklyn, where he worked to relocate his Yeshiva.
