He was one of the greatest figures of the Hasidic movement, a disciple of Rabbi Yechiel Michel of Zloczow, and author of renowned Hasidic books, including 'Ba'er Mayim Chaim' and 'Siduro shel Shabbat'. He is called ”Ba'al Ha'Ba'er Mayim Chaim'” after his book. In 1805 (תקס”ה), with the annexation of Bukovina by the Austrian Empire and after entering into conflict with the Austrian authorities, Rabbi Chaim left his position as Rabbi of Chernivtsi to immigrate to the Land of Israel. However, after crossing the border into the Principality of Moldavia, he served as Rabbi in Botoșani and later in Chișinău. He only arrived in the Land of Israel in 1813 (תקע”ג) and settled in Safed. Rabbi Chaim Tyrer fought against laws that harmed Jews and against the custom of praying outside the synagogue. He is buried in the ancient cemetery of Safed.  *
