CORRESPONDANCE BETWEEN REB CHAIM OZER GRODZENSKY AND REB CHIZKIYAHU YOSEF MISHKOVSKY SON IN LAW OF REB ITZELE PETERBERGER - Autograph postcard handwritten and signed by R. Chaim Ozer Grodzensky (1863-1940), was born into a distinguished rabbinical family and was renowned from a young age for his brilliant mind coupled with great diligence. He initially learned in Eisheshok and later in Volozhin under R. Chaim Soloveitchik. He married the daughter of R. Eliyahu Eliezer Grodzensky, a leading Rov in Vilna (son-in-law of R. Yisroel Salanter), whom he later succeeded. He dedicated his life to the needs of the Jewish People and was recognized as the leading Posek and spiritual leader of his generation, consulted on virtually every Jewish communal issue. He played an instrumental role in preserving Lithuanian Yeshivos during the beginning of the Communist era, and led the yeshivas of Poland and Russia after the Nazi invasion of Poland in 1939, arranging for these Yeshivos to relocate to Lithuanian villages. R. Chizkiyahu Yosef Mishkovsky (1884-1947), known as the Gaon of Krinik, was one of the great Rabbinical leaders of Lithuania and one of the leaders of the Va’ad HaYeshivos in Poland and in Eretz Yisroel. He learned at the Yeshivos of Lomza, Telz, Novardok and Radin. He was particularly close to both the Chofetz Chaim and R. Chaim Ozer Grodzensky, serving as their emissary for many issues. He escaped the Holocaust via Vilna and settled in Eretz Yisroel where he worked tirelessly on behalf of those left in Europe and the reestablishment of the Yeshivos in Eretz Yisroel.
