Sefer Yesod
Korban Nesanel. First Edition. Karlsruhe, 1755

Commentary, explanation, chiddushim in halachah and comments on Piskei HaRosh in Seder Moed and Seder Nashim by Rabbi Nesanel Weill, Av Beis Din of Karlsruhe.

This sefer is fundamental to understanding the Rosh’s writings on Sedar Moed and Seder Nashim which lack the commentaries Maadanei Melech and Pilpula Charifta by the Tosfos Yom Tov.

Rabbi Nesanel Weill (1689-1769), Av Beis Din of Karlsruhe, was a descendant of Mahar”i Weill and one of the greatest Achronim. He is commonly called after his sefer Korban Nesanel, a fundamental work on the writings of the Rosh which was highly praised by his contemporaries. The Avnei Nezer, for example, inscribed, “The sefer Korban Nesanel is very dear to me, for I heard from my honored father-in-law [Rabbi Menachem Mendel of] Kotzk great praises upon this sefer” (Chelek Ohr Hachaim Ch. 4:17).

An illustrated title page that is virtually one of a kind in Torah literature appears in this sefer. The top of the page depicts a bird spreading its wings, with the words “kan tzippor (bird’s nest)” written on either side, alluding to the title of the sefer. In this present copy, the top half of the title page was colored by hand during the printing era.

Chiddushim on halachah at the end of the sefer are marked by the author in the shape of a palm of a hand. These markings appear only in the present edition!
