Regulations, rulings, customs and practices observed in the holy city of Jerusalem as established by local Rabbanim, edited and prepared for print by the Rishon Letzion Rabbi Chaim Avraham Gegin.

This is one of the first Hebrew works printed in Jerusalem, and it presents a primary historical source for Jewish life in Jerusalem.

Sefer Hatakanos V’Haskamos encompasses rules and regulations reached by the Sephardic rabbis in Jerusalem regarding the Rabbinate; authorities and leadership; inheritances; estates and legacies; taxes and property taxes; marital and divorce issues; and more. The above refers to practices instituted from as early as 1730 and up until the printing date.

Among the famous dignitaries who sign upon these very first regulations and policies in the Holy Land are the author of Machaneh Efraim; Rabbi Gedalya Chayun, founder of the Beit E-l kabbalist yeshivah; the Rashash; the Chid”a and his father; Maharit Elgazi and his father; and other great Jerusalem sages.

The two last pages feature letters from Rabbanim in Jerusalem regarding the establishment of the printing house by Rabbi Yisrael Beck, along with a firm warning to avoid infringing business from the famous Jerusalem printer.

The first is a general title page with a decorative border; and the second is specific to Sefer Hatakanos. The margins of the first pages have miniscule holes professionally restored . New leather binding.

Provanace: The flyleaf bears a handwritten collateral deed on this sefer written and signed in 1854 by Rabbanim of Jerusalem including Rabbi Shmuel Yehuda Arvatz and Rabbi Chai Yedidya Suzin. Called Rav Hanassi,

Rabbi Shmuel Yehuda Arvatz (d. 1860) authored the Darkei Ish (Jerusalem, 1875) and was the spiritual master and teacher of Rishon Letzion Rabbi Avraham Ashkenazy. Rabbi Chai Yedidya Suzin was the grandson of Rishon Letzion Rabbi Shlomo Moshe Suzin.
