Handwritten Chiddushei Torah by   Rabbi Yaakov Leib Hakohen Strasser, Son-in-Law of the Ksav Sofer.
Pressburg, 1903
*

Personal handwritten letter replete with chiddushei Torah by Rabbi Yaakov Leib Hakohen Strasser of Pressburg, son-in-law of the Ksav Sofer and father of the illustrious Strasser family.

Rabbi Yaakov Yehuda Leib Hakohen Strasser (circa 1832-1912) was a disciple of the Ksav Sofer who expressed his deep love for his student and, indeed, took him as a son-in-law. The Ksav Sofer once commented, “A day Rabbi Yakov Yehuda comes to visit is a Yom Tov for me.”

In Teshuvos Ksav Sofer, the Ksav Sofer describes his son-in-law as “A kohen whose knowledge is beautiful…  behold he is my son-in-law [whom I love] as a son, my beloved pupil, the righteous rabbi who is great in Torah and possesses pure fear of heaven, replete with the blessing of Hashem…Moreinu Yaakov Leib Katz Strasser.”

Rabbi Yaakov Leib dwelled primarily in Tab, yet in his final years, relocated to Pressburg. He was renowned for his ascetic lifestyle and unparalleled humility. Remnants of his chiddushei Torah were printed in Toras Avos (Brooklyn, 1990). His descendants include Rabbi Akiva Hakohen Strasser, Av Beis of Tokaj and Rabbi Shomo Tzvi Hakohen Strasser, Av Beis Din of Debrecen.

Pressburg, 1903. 2 handwritten sides. Page size: 23x14 cm. To the best of our knowledge, this letter was never published. Good condition.
