Baccarat - Baccarat Crystal ”Serpentin” Vase -- Signed France, Swirled Ribbed Form. A Baccarat crystal vase in the Serpentin pattern, made in France. The form is waisted at the center and flares to an undulating rim, with heavy applied crystal ribs that spiral the full height of the body and curl free of the wall -- the detail that gives the pattern its name. The ribs catch and bend the light down the length of the vase, and the piece reads as sculpture as much as vessel. The vase is acid-etched with the Baccarat maker's mark. Baccarat has produced crystal at its works in Lorraine since 1764, and Serpentin remains one of the house's signature sculptural vase forms.
