Baccarat - BACCARAT (French) -- ”Tete de Cheval” Clear Crystal Horse Head Sculpture, Signed, with Original Box. A Baccarat full-lead crystal sculpture modeled as a horse's head and neck, ears pricked and mane swept back in deep relief, rising from an integral faceted plinth. The modeling plays satin-finished passages across the muzzle, jaw and neck against brilliantly polished mane, ears and base -- a contrast that gives the piece real presence under light and reads equally well as a sculpture or a substantial desk paperweight. The horse is a long-running subject for the house, which continues to produce equestrian sculpture under its Cheval line; this bust form is among the most recognizable of the series. Marks: Engraved Baccarat script signature to the front edge of the base, together with the acid-etched Baccarat roundel (the decanter, goblet and tumbler device) to the base. Condition: Excellent. No chips, cracks, flakes or repairs. Crystal is bright and water-clear with strong fire; light surface handling marks only, consistent with careful storage. Accompanied by: Original red Baccarat presentation box with fitted foam insert. Modern French decorative arts. Late 20th century.
