Bidspirit auction | Hermes Tournez Manege Silk Scarf
Hermes Tournez Manege Silk Scarf Designed by Cathy Latham - This is a vintage Hermes silk scarf featuring the Tournez Manege pattern, originally designed by artist Cathy Latham and first issued in 1982. The composition centers on a vibrant carousel theme set against a blue field. The scene depicts ornate golden carousel structures and various ride animals including lions, horses, tigers, and cats rendered in shades of grey with colorful tack. The central design is framed by a fuchsia-pink border accented with golden swags and decorative emblems. A small circular vignette of a rider on a horse is located at the bottom center of the border. The scarf is constructed from 100 percent silk and finished with hand-rolled edges. Several identifying marks are present: the pattern title TOURNEZ MANEGE is printed on a golden ribbon at the top of the central scene; the branding HERMES-PARIS is contained within a golden cartouche on the lower right border; the copyright mark (c) HERMES is located beneath the central horse-and-rider emblem; and the artist signature LATHAM is printed in the bottom right corner of the horse-and-rider vignette. A white fabric care tag is attached to one edge, stating FABRIQUE EN FRANCE / 100% SOIE / MADE IN FRANCE / 100% SILK / DRY CLEAN ONLY. A separate small tag or stamp with the letter D is also attached to the hem. Approximately 89 cm x 89 cm (35 inches x 35 inches).
