Bidspirit auction | Hermes Marine et Cavalerie Silk

Hermes Marine et Cavalerie Silk Scarf - This Hermes silk scarf features the Marine et Cavalerie design, originally issued in 1966 and designed by Philippe Ledoux. The central circular motif commemorates the 1795 capture of the Dutch fleet by French cavalry on the frozen sea at Den Helder, depicting soldiers on horseback among three-masted sailing ships on a white ice-covered ground. The scene is framed by a golden rope border, with large, ornate golden trophies of arms and military instruments in each corner against a muted light blue-grey background. Printed inscriptions within the design include Marine et Cavalerie, 2 Pluviose An III, 1795, the artist signature Ledoux, and Hermes-Paris. A copyright mark is printed on the silk fabric. An attached white fabric care tag is printed with Fabrique en France 100% Soie and Made in France 100% Silk. The piece is finished with hand-rolled edges. Dimensions: 35 inches x 35 inches (90 cm x 90 cm).
