JAY KEMP ”IN HIS DOMAIN” PRINT 758/1250 - Jay Kemp ”In His Domain” Print 758/1250. Piece depicts a deer in a forest. With artistic mastery far beyond his years, Jay Kemp already has gathered a following of art connoisseurs. He has been dubbed ”one of the great, shining stars of the future” and his pencil, watercolor and gouache (opaque watercolor) renditions of the nature he loves grace several important collections. At all his recent shows his paintings have sold out within seconds. He has received the 2002 Florida Wildlife & Western Art Exposition's highest honor, The Peoples Choice Award What makes Kemp's work so sought after? Ask the collectors, and they will point out the perfection of detail, the exquisite coloration, and, above all, the unique style that juxtaposes illusion and emotion with superrealism. Ask the artist what makes his work speak to the soul, and he will modestly tell you that it is his love of nature-nurtured by life on his family's farm in Georgia, and hours spent outdoors, enjoying sunsets and snowstorms with equal relish and wonder. A graduate of Anderson College (on a baseball scholarship) and North Georgia College (on an art scholarship), Kemp surely lives up to the promise of his words: ”I strive to capture those images that pass quickly in our lives, leaving a fleeting yet memorable impression.” While working on a painting, Jay Kemp finds it necessary to gather reference material consisting of specimens, photographs or videos in addition to his own sketches. Yet the most important resource for his work is personal experience. He finds experiencing a sunset or a snowstorm is far more dramatic than looking at a photograph of one.
