HAND CARVED 19th CENTURY AMERICAN EAGLE PLAQUE
Large carved 19th century American eagle plaque, most likely oak. The plaque is an impressive three dimensional carving, with laurel branches on either side of the eagle and a flowing ribbon banner on the bottom. According to the consignor the eagle originated from a library in Massachusetts, it weighs about 15 pound and measures 16 x 16 inches and 2 inches thick, with a vertical split in the center, which may be intentional. The backside has three brackets for reinforcement. Minor loss at top right and on the tip of the left wing of the eagle. Otherwise in good condition.
