1943 AVIATION CADET TRAINING PORTFOLIO
Original training portfolio for an aviation cadet of the U.S. Army Air Corps from the Nashville Army Air Center, once belonging to Garland H. Spicer, Jr., ASN 13179692, dated June 15, 1943, 12 x 8.75 inches. The portfolio contains nineteen pages of instructions for new aviation cadets including how to act while on duty, instructions on facing a higher ranking officer, behavior off base, travel orders, and cadet morale. 'The title 'Aviation Cadet' is a proud one and each cadet bears a responsibility to all the rest. If you do not justify that uniform...if you do not know how to take orders, you will never be able to grace the uniform of a commissioned officer and you will never acquire the feeling of responsibility necessary in giving orders!' Some cartoons by A.C. William Meyerriecks. Minor tears, creases, and abrasions on portfolio cover. WITH: Diploma for the Cavalry School 'Advanced Equitation Course', awarded to 1st Lieutenant George E. Mitchell, Jr., Field Artillery in 1931, 16 x 12 inches. Bumped corners and mailing folds. And five American and Japanese insignia including a Third Army patch, one lance corporal chevron, an American Expeditionary Forces insignia ring, a WWI USMC wool overseas cap, and a Japanese collar cloth rank insignia.
