GERMAN EMPIRE SOUTH WEST AFRICA MAP
Very large German teaching map, 5 x 7 feet, used in German classrooms to teach children about the colony of the German Empire, German South West Africa. The map shows Namibia, once known as South West Africa, the southern border of Angola, the western border of Botswana, the northwest border of South Africa, and the cities of Windhoek and Swakopmund. In 1915, during World War I, German South West Africa was invaded by the Western Allies in the form of South African and British forces. It became independent as Namibia on 21 March 1990. The map is very large, hand-painted, with rail lines and roads, border markings, but does not have a legend, date or maker. Linen-backed. Map is suspended between two wooden poles with two fabric ties and a woven hanging cord. 5 x 7 feet (84 x 60 inches). Inquire for shipping rates, will ship rolled.
