SS GARRISON CANTEEN BOWL FROM BUCHENWALD - 1944 food bowl from SS garrison canteen Buchenwald/Weimar subcamp Schwerte, 7.25 inches in diameter. The bottom of the plate is embossed with the SS runes and reads 'Standort-Kantine Buchenwald - Aussenkommando - Schwerte (Ruhr) 1944'. Oxidations throughout. The work camp was established April 1944 and was one of 137 subcamps. According to retained letters German soldiers complained about being treated the same as inmates, having to stand in the same feeding line, with spoon and bowl in hand, for the same lousy food.
