IWO JIMA MOUNT SURIBACHI PHOTOGRAPH
Original WWII b/w photograph of Mount Suribachi on Iwo Jima. The image was probably captured by one of the official Navy Signal Corps photographers aboard one of the war ships moving towards the island. The 4 x 5 inch photograph has a handwritten note on the back 'During the Iwo Jima campaign' and the front bears the inscription from the original negative 'Mt Surabachi [sic]Iwo Jima 22 Feb 1945 K63.' The photograph bears a few pinholes and very light creases. The print was stored in a First Day Cover signed by Joe Rosenthal, but we are unable to verify that it was captured by him.
