SOLDBOOK FOR GERMAN SOLDIER EXECUTED BY SOVIETS
Rare Soldbook (Soldbuch) issued to German Oberst Otto Metterhausen, born 9.6.88 in Hamburg, a veteran of WWI, with the Landes-Schuetzen Batt. 475 and later the Fuhrer Reserve Wehrkreiskommando XXI (Posen). Metterhausen was arrested in Schwerin (Soviet occupation zone) on 6.6.1946, sentenced to death by a post-war Soviet Military Tribunal on 20.10.1946 on the basis of UKAS (Decree) 43, he was executed by a firing squad on 11.11.1946. The decree in full reads 'On measures for the punishment of German-Fascist criminals who are guilty of killing or maltreating Soviet civilians and Red Army prisoners-of-war and for the punishment of spies and traitors to their fatherland among Soviet citizens and their helpers.' Of 3301 Germans it is assumed that 2542 persons were executed. His sold book shows the usual entries for issued equipment, hospital stays, one entry that he made a private purchase of a Walther pistol, his awards. His case is recorded at the Documentation center Dresden, Germany.
