JOSEF HARPE - (1887-1968) German General, tank commander, recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords. War-date typed letter signed, as commander of the 4th Panzer Army, army headquarters, 13. June 1944, to General FRIEDRICH WIESE, commander of the XXXV Army Corps. In part: 'Dear Wiese! You can imagine how hard it was to leave the 9th Army. I have fond memories of the time and proud proud accomplishment of my old army. I have found a broad field of activities here and hope that very soon everything will go as smooth as in the 9. Army. My best wishes to you and your Army Corps.' Signed at conclusion in blue ink.
