LEV MEKHLIS
(1889 - 1953) Soviet politician and high commander of the Red Army from 1937 to 1940. He was one of the main Stavka representatives during World War II who was responsible for five to seven Soviet fronts. A typed document that was originally sent to Mekhlis for approval. It is a recommendation to assign Regimental Commissar Alexandr Dormidontovich Petlenko to the position of military commissar of the 45th Long-Range Heavy Bomber Aviation Division. Petlenko went on to become a Major-General of Aviation. Original signature of Lev Mekhlis in green crayon at the bottom of the page. The document is dated May 28, 1942, with the approval of the request dated May 30, 1942. One page, staple holes on the left, 8 x 11.5 in., toning.
