DMITRIY USTINOV MARSHAL OF THE SOVIET UNION
(1908 - 1984) Marshal of the Soviet Union and Soviet politician during the Cold War. During WWII, Ustinov was appointed to the post of People's Commissar of Armaments and supervised the massive evacuation of the defence industry from the besieged city of Leningrad to east of the Ural Mountains. He also played a crucial role in requisitioning the German missile program as an impetus to the Soviet missile and space programs. He was honored as the Hero of the Soviet Union and the Hero of Socialist Labor. Ustinov later served as a Central Committee secretary in charge of the Soviet military-industrial complex and as Minister of Defence of the Soviet Union from 1976 until his death in 1984. A red, white and gold greeting card with a typed note inside addressed to Colonel-General Vasily V. Okunev congratulating him with the First of May (Labor Day) and the Victory Day commemorating the defeat of Nazi Germany. Original signature in blue ink. 7.5 x 3.75 in. when folded, very good.
