AUSCHWITZ INMATE PHOTOGRAPHS - AUSCHWITZ INMATE PHOTOGRAPHS Rare pair of original b/w photographs from the prisoner records department at KL-Auschwitz of Josef Stafl, an inmate at Auschwitz concentration camp. Stafl is identified in the photographs as a Polish inmate number 25670. His records at Auschwitz Birkenau and Theresienstadt show that Josef Stafl was born 12.22.1886 in Kosik, Nymburk (Koschik, Neuenburg a.d. Elbe), an atheist, he was arrested by the Gestapo and deported to the 'Kleine Festung' prison (small fortress), part of Theresienstadt Ghetto and concentration camp. He was transported to Auschwitz on 14.1.1942, where he received his prisoner number 25670. Stafl was transferred to the prison hospital block 28 as recorded in the 'Record Book of Block 28' preserved at the archives of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. Josef Stafl died in the camp on April 4, 1942. These photographs are original single prints, 3.25 x 5 inches, almost postcard-sized and very rare, and not to be confused with the smaller museum-issued strips that are more readily available.
