VIENNA WELCOMES HITLER 9. APRIL 1938 - VIENNA WELCOMES HITLER 9. APRIL 1938 Presentation folio of the speech, and response, given by the mayor of Vienna, Hermann Neubacher on 9. April 1938 welcoming Adolf Hitler and announcing the day of the Greater German Reich (Tag des Grossdeutschen Reiches). In his response, Hitler states that he is confident that on the following day, 10. April, Vienna will also vote 'Yes' to the resolution. This event was the highlight of weeks of propaganda events preceding the referendum on Austria's Anschluss with Germany.
